Of these businesses, 59% were controlled by entities in other EU countries and 41% by entities outside the EU. Seller impact
- InferenceIn countries with a high concentration of foreign-controlled businesses (Ireland, Luxembourg, and Slovakia), manufacturing and export activities depend more heavily on decisions made by cross-border parent companies. Orders, capacity, and pricing power may fluctuate as overseas headquarters adjust their plans, limiting local small and medium-sized suppliers’ bargaining power. [1]
Suggested action
Check the Eurostat fats_activ dataset to confirm FDI participation in your target country and industry, then assess customer concentration risk.
Evidence that would disprove the assessment
- Assessment 1:This assessment would no longer hold if subsequent Eurostat revisions show a marked decline in the foreign-controlled share of value added, or if industry-level details show that the concentration is not primarily in manufacturing and export activities. Recheck in two weeks.
