NPR Editor Discusses AI Coverage: From Sora Deepfakes to an Anthropic Researcher’s Resignation

NPR editor Brett Neely said in “The Journalist’s Notebook” that after OpenAI released its video-generation tool Sora 2 in 2025, he immediately used it to create a fake video, styled like surveillance footage, of a ballot being placed in a ballot box to test the real-world risks of deepfakes; Sora was later discontinued.
