Can AI detect silent internet failures before they happen?

Researchers at Istanbul Technical University have developed an AI-based method to identify early warning signs of silent “black hole” failures in backbone networks. The method achieved a 98% detection rate and an F1 score of about 90% on the UNSW-NB15 and ToN_IoT labeled datasets, and identified black hole patterns in real ISP backbone traffic within a five-minute prediction window.
