Analysts say U.S.-Russia diesel deal is unlikely to significantly ease high U.S. diesel prices
Analysts say the deal in which Trump lifted sanctions on Russian diesel shipments in exchange for supplies is limited in scale and unlikely to significantly lower U.S. diesel prices before the November midterm elections. Trump said the first shipment this month would be about 2.25 million barrels. Russia has pledged to supply about 3.75 million barrels at this stage, but no delivery schedule has been specified. Even if the larger amount were shipped entirely to the United States, it would cover only slightly more than one day of diesel demand. Future deliveries depend on Russian supply and an energy ceasefire, and shipping would take at least two weeks. The U.S. Energy Information Administration forecasts that diesel prices will remain above prewar levels at least through 2027.
