USTR imposes forced-labor tariffs on 60 trading partners under Section 301
At the President’s direction, the Office of the United States Trade Representative has taken final action under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 to impose tariffs on 60 trading partners, citing their failure to adopt and effectively enforce import bans on goods made with forced labor. The United States says the action is intended to promote enforcement of labor rights abroad and encourage trading partners to join the United States in implementing import bans on goods made with forced labor. Industry groups representing steel, manufacturing, agriculture, and other sectors, as well as members of Congress, expressed support for the action. The Southern Shrimp Alliance noted that India has adopted an import ban on goods made with forced labor.
