South Africa’s Department of Communications and Digital Technologies to redraft AI policy white paper

South Africa’s Department of Communications and Digital Technologies will redraft its artificial intelligence policy white paper next month. An earlier version was reported to have been AI-generated and to contain fabricated citations, and was withdrawn. Deputy Minister Mondli Gungubele said the final draft is expected to be submitted to the Cabinet by the end of November. He also said Starlink’s entry into South Africa would help expand connectivity, but that it must comply with the country’s ownership laws.
