Anthropic updates its Usage Policy: users may not gratuitously treat Claude cruelly

Anthropic has updated its Usage Policy to prohibit “persistent and gratuitous abuse or cruelty” toward Claude. The rule applies only in extreme cases where a user “repeatedly treats” the model cruelly “without an apparent purpose.” Claude models can already proactively end conversations with users who persistently abuse them, and ending the conversation remains the main enforcement method. The new policy takes effect on November 12 and also adds bans on fake reviews, deepfakes, nonconsensual intimate images, and other conduct.
