Puerto Rican parrot chick rescued from invasive red-tailed boa

With help from U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service biologist Raúl Correa, a Puerto Rican parrot chick trapped on a bamboo pole by a red-tailed boa escaped and rejoined its flock in flight the next day. Red-tailed boas are native to South America and entered Puerto Rico through the illegal exotic pet trade in the 1990s. With no natural predators, they spread rapidly and caused widespread damage to native wildlife, including the critically endangered Puerto Rican parrot.
