India’s fertilizer sales app pilot saves ₹150 billion in 22 districts

The Indian government is piloting the Fertilizer Sales Framework (FFS), which sells fertilizer through an app or online, in 222 districts across 29 states and union territories. During Kharif 2026, sales fell 28%, saving ₹147 billion. Fertilizer sales in the pilot districts fell from 183,000 tonnes the previous year to 133,500 tonnes, while the number of farmers who purchased fertilizer rose from 445,500 to 469,700. Punjab did not implement the pilot, and Madhya Pradesh suspended it following farmer protests.
