AmCham Cyprus Calls for Five Measures, Including Visa-Free Travel and Direct Flights, Between the United States and Cyprus

The American Chamber of Commerce in Cyprus (AmCham Cyprus) issued a policy paper proposing five measures to deepen U.S.-Cyprus relations: joining the U.S. Visa Waiver Program (VWP), updating the double taxation agreement, signing a social security agreement, launching direct flights, and assessing a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) preclearance facility. The paper notes that Cyprus’s visa refusal rate is 2.16%, below the VWP’s 3% threshold; the current tax agreement was signed in 1984 and entered into force in 1986, and no longer meets modern tax standards.
