Cyprus Coast Guard to Come Under the Deputy Ministry of Shipping

The Cypriot government is establishing a coast guard, initially under the Ministry of Justice and later to be transferred to the jurisdiction of the Deputy Ministry of Shipping. The relevant draft has been submitted to the Law Office for review. The force will be independent of the police and will be responsible for maritime law enforcement and protecting offshore platforms and undersea cables, among other duties. Its headquarters will be at Mari Naval Base, and it will integrate existing maritime police personnel and assets.
