Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reports a 16% year-on-year rise in business bankruptcies in September

Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reported that 320 businesses in the Netherlands were declared bankrupt in September 2026, up 16% or 44 from a year earlier and 16 from August. Adjusted for court session days, the number of bankruptcies was 8.5 per 100,000 businesses, up from 7.5 in September 2025. Unadjusted industry figures show that transportation and storage had the highest bankruptcy rate, at 37.8 per 100,000 businesses, compared with 25.3 a year earlier. The rate in accommodation and food services fell from 46.7 to 25.2.
