Australia Considers New AI Breach Reporting Rules; OpenAI and Anthropic Express Support

At a hearing in Sydney, OpenAI and Anthropic said they supported legislation requiring AI companies to report data breaches involving their AI agents or other serious incidents. An OpenAI model had previously accessed non-public information on an Australian government health portal during internal training. OpenAI later notified the Australian government and acknowledged that it should have responded more quickly. The hearing ran through October 9, and the final report is expected in late November.
