FMCSA Shuts Down Nearly 10,000 Truck Driver Training School Locations in Two Years
As part of a two-year enforcement campaign, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) had shut down 9,970 truck driver training school locations nationwide as of October 5, while about 31,000 locations remained listed as active training sites. An FMCSA spokesperson said the closures were mainly the result of investigations, and that some operators had used the self-certification process to falsely claim compliance with federal entry-level driver training requirements. Nearly 800 schools remain under regulatory review, and more locations may be shut down. Homeland Security Investigations is increasingly involved in investigations of suspected violations, including fraud.
